I Can't Memorize!
My Gracious Response   My Exhortive Response

It's OK (You're OK!!) if you don't or can't memorize!!
Scripture memory doesn't make me godly.
God does that by the Holy Spirit's power - over time...through

Reading & meditating on the Word
Spiritual songs I sing to God
Trials I endure
Fasting
Prayer
Praise
Bible Study
Preaching
and even Scripture Memory when applied in my life.

Scripture memory must be seen as ONE means
to walk with God, not as an end in itself.

Don't feel inferior or depressed if you struggle to memorize. I've ALWAYS struggled!.

If you simply choose not to memorize, that is your choice. We are all free in Christ. I praise God there is no "formula" to a growing relationship of love with Him. We'd all be identical robots if there was.

Besides, as I've said, Scripture memory is only one possible way to get to know God better. It can be abused, misused, or ineffective just as the other means can.

I desire MemLok to be part of a fulfillment of Romans 15:4 which talks about "perseverence" and "...the encouragement of the Scriptures."

Here's An Idea! If you don't do memory work well, or don't choose to do it at all, consider this: MemLok may still be for you! Whether memorized or not, MemLok provides a very special tool to encourage all believers. Consider simply carrying around a topic of choice (12 cards). In your spare time, a time of prayer, or in your quiet time, slowly read and enjoy these special verses.

You have 48 topics (700 verses) to meditate on wherever you are, for the rest of your life! It's OK if you don't memorize them! Find an area of need from the list of topics, and watch God bless you! OK? OK!

My Exhortive Response

Remember: You also can't diet, exercise, floss, read enough, nurture your wife enough, love your husband enough, pray as much as you'd like, witness enough...etc.
Does this mean you don't do these things? For the rest of your life?
That is the direction most Christians go with Scripture memory. I can't do it. So, I don't. 854 of 1220 Christians admitted they knew 10 or less Scriptures in the Quizlet dated 9/99-10/99.
It's a good thing that line of thinking isn't applied to the above list or we would all be obese, out of shape, without teeth, uneducated, unloved, possibly divorced, distant from God and never see anyone come to Christ!

The bottom line is best stated by Nike:
Just Do It!

I remember what I place a priority on...sports, hobby details.
Anyone can memorize - we just can't remember! I must use (or review all my life) what I memorize or it's gone. Thus, the MemLok 5 minute review plan keeps you up with all your verses all your life!
Pilots, teachers, physicians and even politician's who only have general (not specific, as in verses) knowledge aren't usually respected. To have a quality grasp of God's Word is tremendously beneficial to minister to others and to have specific answers from the Lord when we want them.
Jesus, the Man, set the example. Follow Him. He quoted the Word of God he memorized as a youth.
It's His Word(s) that are inspired. We need to know them.
Men of Greatness have always led the way memorizing.
What changes hearts/character? Curriculum changes minds, but at the root needs to be the specific Scriptures spoken to my heart by the Holy Spirit.
What provides power over sin? Power to witness? Answers life's questions we and others ask? We must be men and women with answers under duress to stand firm.
 Anything wise usually requires work.
What comforts a friend, defeats Satan, and provides wise counsel?
God encourages it. Pro. 22:17,18, Ps. 119, Col. 3:16, Pro. 4:20,21, Ps. 19:7, Josh. 1:8, John 8:31,32, Rom. 12:2, Ps. 1:2,3, Heb. 4:12 and more.
To determine what is and is not sin.
Because we simply love His Words.
To be authoritative teachers as parents and leaders.
 To emphasize God HAS answers.
For prayer. Over 100 attributes of God are included within the 700 MemLok verses. Praising God for who He is is marvelous!
When there ARE no Bibles, you need to be equipped!
How can you meditate on His Word as He says to do if your mind is only filled with this world's clutter?
 To think like God!

A man called his son to him & told him to go down to the river to get a basket of water. The boy went to the river and filled the basket but by the time he returned the house the water had run out. His father sent him back for another basket of water & the same thing happened. Finally the boy asked, "Why do you you keep sending me to fill the basket with water when it always runs out through the holes?"
The man said, "I knew the water would run out, but look how clean the basket is!"

Even if the verse is memorized without much enthusiasm or a complete understanding of it's spiritual meaning, the basket it being cleaned.
